Now there are many methods to get one way links. You can find new methods yourself just by exploring the Internet. Check out any website that allows you in some way or another to add your link without having to link back.

Not very common methods include submitting your website to awards sites. These are sites that accept website submissions, then they award the website with the best web design, the best content and so on. Then give the winner a badge, a star or something like that. But they also link to that website from their awards page.

With a bit of research you can find many other methods.

The method I enjoy is forum submission. First of all you are not just submitting the same website information like you do with directory submission. You are replying to a forum post, a discussion, so it is interesting.

You can find forums related to your website, and you are getting one way links while chatting more or less. Here is the proper way to do it.

First of all you join a forum. They send you confirmation email, so you have to check your email and visit the link in that email. It is easy. Next login, and find the profile page, usually called profile, settings, control panel or something like that. You do not need to fill in all the information, but just the signature box. In that box, enter maximum one domain.

I do not suggest you put more than one domain, or else you may look like a spammer.

Always include a keyword in the anchor text. So you create a text link, the keyword that links to your domain name. You cannot input html code in this box, but special code. Next to this box, there is information on how to add a link, it is called BBC code sometimes.

Basically you click that and follow instructions, there is how to make bold, italics, underline and many other fonts and styles. However you are only interested on how to make a link.

Then click submit to save your profile, find a post you can reply to and make your reply.

Make sure the signature appears under your post. This appears automatically. While posting you should see a link to Advanced Options somewhere. You can click that and see other options, one allows you to add signature to your post.

You can also go to your profile again and edit settings there, but usually this is not required, since by default most forums automatically add your signature to posts.

You just got a one way links from this forum. This is more powerful than a link from a directory. That does not mean you ignore directory submissions. Treat it as another method you can use, when you wish, but forum submissions is much better, so you can simple do only that.

A link from a forum, is better because it is in between content. Links inside an article or any content is better than a link from a page with no content at all.

Once you have replied to a post, it is time to join another forum. You want backlinks from unique websites, it is more powerful. However bookmark the forums, because within a month or two you need to repost a message, and always make a decent and useful post.

Not a one line post. Pick a post where a member posted a question, and if you can reply to that and help him. So you are not just posting for a link, helping not spamming.

You need to repost, or else administrator of forums simple thinks you are spamming, if you only posted once in two months.

You need to relax, it is a great method to get ideas, inspirations and solutions. The other thing is that making link exchanges is not an easy task, but time consuming if you do not invest some money in some software.

The other important thing is to take things more easy. What that means is you should not complain or waste a lot of time discussing why this or why that. Time is precious. These are common things that every webmasters faces. Once you know this you should feel a bit better.

The nofollow tag.

Some webmasters use the nofollow tag either on your link, or on their links page. You need to make sure that spiders can reach the page your link is on. Sometimes webmasters put the nofollow tag on the link pointing to their linkspage, which is located on the homepage. There are plugins that highlight links that are using nofollow tags or find out some other tools if you do not wish to check this manually.

The robots file.

Robots files are used sometimes instead of the nofollow tags to block spiders from indexing the linkspage. You need to check this file, which is called robots.txt and located in the root of the website. Make sure spiders are allowed to visit the linkspage.

The meta tag.

You need to check the meta tags of the homepage and also the meta tags of the page your link is on. In both tags, you need to make sure they are not blocking the spiders in some way or another. The attributes that you need to look for are all, index, follow. That means spiders should follow all links and index them all.

They remove your link.

If your link partner removes your link from their website, rest assured not all of your partners will notify you. As long as they are not using some script that does it automatically you will have to check this out for yourself. There are scripts and software to do this easily. So keep record somewhere always of the location your partner placed your link so you check every one or two months.

This happens for several reasons. Sometimes webmasters do it because they cannot find a link back and most common reason is because you moved their link. So like my first suggestion never waste time complaining and moaning about this. Simple email them and let them know you are going to remove their link because you cannot find yours. Give them an option to re submit their link.

For example, tell them you can reply to this email if you are still interested in a link exchange. Then if after a couple of days they do not reply, send them another email and then after another couple of days remove their link if they do not reply.

That is another problem. Usually if they are not linking to their linkspage from their homepage you can easily tell. The linkspage will have no menus, just a blank page with links. Most webmasters who do this simple do not know they have to link to their linkspage from their homepage. They are new to seo.

So check if they are linking to it from the homepage only if the linkspage has absolutely nothing but links. To make sure then google the page and see if it is in the index, if it is then obviously it is linked from somewhere.

This is not to track traffic. If you wish to know which keywords are giving you the most traffic this is for you. Why you need this tool?

If you know a certain keyword is getting you the most amount of traffic, then optimize your website for that keyword. If it is #10 in Google, then get it #1.

That's why you need this tool, it's very advanced, with charts, lists and detailed information. Do not rely on your webhosting stats, they are not very accurate for things I shall not go into detail here.

There are no stat counters displayed on your site!

But remember, if you don't need to know this info, don't use this tool. Search engines prefer not to see too many code (javascripts etc) in your website.

2) Pinging your blogs, feed or podcasts.

The one tool that in my opinion is better than pingomatic nowadays. You just select the many pinging servers and hit submit.

I believe Link Exchanges still provide quality and useful backlinks that search engine love. There is no right or wrong way to make link exchanges, but you must follow certain guidelines which I shall explain below.

In my experience I have seen big improvements in search engines rankings after getting reciprocal links from related websites.

Link exchange guidelines:

Get reciprocal links only from sites that are related to your own at first. Best thing to do is create a directory with categories and subcategories. Like ebay although you won't need to have hundreds of subcategories. Once you build a strong link exchange directory with related sites start getting links from any type of site.

This only applies if your website is brand new but also if you get links slowly. If you are experienced, and know how to get many link exchanges fast, then there is no need to create a highly focused directory before getting links from any category.

A link is important, so important that it does not need to be on a page with 40 other links to be considered important. All links are required, so accept a link even if there are a hundred other links on the same page.

The only time I reject a link is when a webmaster creates a page on his site, totally blank, and he does not link to it from anywhere. So it cannot get indexed any time. They just upload the page on the server and that's it.

Installing one of the free plugins that display links that are using nofollow tags is also important. So make sure your links won't be using nofollow tags.

Pay attention to three way link exchanges from certain type of sites. If you link to site A, and the webmaster then links to you from a directory (not a site) that is no good. At least get a link from a website.

4 Do not link exchange with directories. They have no content and most of them have categories that relate to everything you can imagine. All links are important, but still I ignore directories, I submit my website to many directories but not to those that require a link back.

Making link exchanges with sites hosted on free webservers is not bad, however these websites usually do not last long, the webmaster may buy a domain and all links get lost. But it is still a link, so get it if you can.

6. Check their links pages, and if they have too many characters in the URL pay attention. If it is too long search engines cannot index that page and a link on the page is useless.

However check to see if some of the pages got indexed, if at least one got indexed then even the rest can get indexed.

Those are basic rules.

If you have a blog do blog link exchange, you place their blog on the sidebar and vice versa. They might also accept an article exchange which is even better.

I check to see if my link partners are still linking back once a month, assuming you don't have some directory that does the work for you. Before I delete any links I send the webmaster an email or use their contact form. Sometimes they just move the site to a better location not always remove link. So good thing to check before deleting link partners.

Getting too many link exchanges at once is also not recommended. That looks very spammy and even worse if they all have same anchor text. So for a whole month you did nothing than all of a sudden you have 100 new links in one day.

Done slowly and every day, say 30 links a day that is absolutely great. Whatever the amount it must be the same every day approximately. I can tell from my results. It is also good news because you work less. This is a problem we face since the so called Duplicate Content Theory. Article submission to hundreds of websites is no longer effective and also dangerously bad. Is that correct?

When you submit your article to a 100 directories, search engines than find 100 links to your site (in a day) all with same anchor text. They consider this as spam.

But, most often article directories do not approve your articles instantly, some take a day, others a week so you won't get too many links at once. So you can still use a software to submit your articles, and the more you submit the more backlinks you get. That's the great thing. There are no bad side effects by doing this.

Secondly, you should change the anchor text often. Put a keyword in the anchor text.

Here's the best method to get one way links using articles:

1) Create an article.

Then post the article on your blog or website. Your website needs new content create a new page for each article. Then put a link to each of your articles on a page which you may call Articles. Do not link to each of your article pages from your homepage, keep everything well organized both for search engines and your visitors.

2) Wait until the search engines index the page with your article, that way the article is now yours. Search engines now know that you are the owner of the article. To get the page indexed fast you can link to it from the sitemap or from the homepage until it gets indexed, then remove the link.

If your website is brand new, skip this step and do not wait until the article gets indexed before submitting it to article directories.

3) Now you can submit your article to major directories.

Finally contact webmasters that are publishing articles on their website and ask them for a link exchange. This may be the most difficult part, that is why I skip it or work less on it.

You can though use some services or forums where you can swap articles with other webmasters. That is much easier.

4) Check to see if others are using your article on their website without using your bio information. :) This may be a good idea to do, because you can contact them and let them know and at the same time suggest to them your other articles.

Do not worry if people put your articles on their websites without linking to your site. It does happen to all of us, and you waste time struggling with these things. However it's good idea to contact some who posted your articles, and tell them you have more.

Tell them they can also put your other articles on their site. Or better yet, tell them you wish to become an author for their blog or website, so you can post whenever you want.

Here is the secret to speed writing. Don't think just write. Stretch an idea after you pick one and expand it as much as possible. Keep mentioning details. So if you want to create an article to gardeners pick one topic or idea and talk as much as possible about it.

But speed writing may not be for you if you are looking for that awesome article that when people read they go to your website and buy. However it is awesome way to create a lot of fresh new content for your blog or website, since search engines love your website, your website optimization and rankings improves.

It is also great if you do article marketing, to get one way links to your website or blog. You have plenty of new articles.

All pages will get indexed, if your website is properly organized. Spiders visit a webpage and also visit each of the links on that webpage. So they will visit your entire website by following links. If you create a webpage and do not link to it from anywhere then obviously it will not be seen.

Now Google also have the google webmasters tools, and there are software that allows you to create a google sitemap. You put that special sitemap to google webmasters tools. It helps your webpages to get indexed faster. It also monitors which webpages return the 404 page not found or other erros.

You should make sure your website has no 404 error pages. All links should be working well, if not simple fix so called broken links that return error messages.

You can also submit a similar sitemap to Yahoo. There are software once again that will create this special sitemap. When we refer to spiders, we refer to all search engine spiders because every search engine has its own spider.

12 Things to Do to Improve Your Site's Google Page Ranking
Content is the king. Search engines love fresh and quality content, since that's what the users want - more new things to read every day and every hour. When your site changes often - search engine crawlers come back more often as well. Of course by generating new content you raise the chance that more of your pages will be found.

Once you have the content generated, here is what you can do to have your site found more often by new visitors:

Use Google Sitemaps to see how Google sees your site, when it was last updated, whether you have any problems on your site, etc. I've written an article on this topic: How to Improve Site's Ranking with Google Sitemaps. You also want to provide a sitemap for your visitors.
Get involved in communities relevant to the content of your site. Visit their forums and mailing lists, and help other people by answering their questions, posting links to your site if they contain information relevant to your replies. Usually you are allowed to have a signature, where you can link to your site. However be aware that more and more sites implement a new link attribute rel="nofollow", which tells Google (MSN, Yahoo and other sites) to not count those links to your site's ranking credit. The head section of the document should include meta entries for keywords and description. Though it's been said that the keywords meta entry has little or no weight with Google, but is still useful with other search engines. Also make sure that the title of the document includes the most important keywords and phrases, as Google gives a heavy weight to those. The keywords need to be included in the H1 and H2 header entries, and also once in bold, once in italic and if possible in the URL.
Spell check your content. Google doesn't like when misspelled words are used, as it tries to auto-correct search words. Some sites use misspelled words to get more traffic to their site. e.g., "hign paying keywords" instead of "high paying keywords"
It's been said that sites containing valid XHTML are favored by the search engines. But it should at least use valid HTML. One other thing to make sure is that your site is readable by non-graphical browsers, such as Links and Lynx. Blind users use those to browse the Internet and search engines favor sites that are useful to more people. In fact search engines see your site as text, so things like javascript, DHTML and Flash may make it hard for the search engine to crawl your site.
Publish articles on other sites relevant to your expertise. Make sure that those articles link back to your site. I'm somewhat weary about submitting my articles to other sites, since then I end up with a duplication problem and a chance that a search engine would penalise duplicated content sites. Hopefully it somehow knows where the content has appeared in first place. But I don't want to take chances. So may be submitting unique articles which don't appear on my site is a much safer strategy.
Sometimes your site competes with many other sites for the same keywords. Rather than optimising all of your site for the same keywords, try to find less competitive keywords and optimise some of your pages for those keywords. There are both commercial and free programs to help you do that.
Learn from your competitors. Go to Google and search for the competing keywords, go to the first few sites with high page rank and analyse those sites, see what they have done differently than your site. Granted the site might be just very popular and linked from many other sites, but more often than not reading through the source code of the site can tip you off how to do better. You can find out which sites link to that site by searching Google for link:yoursite.com and you may want to try to get your site listed on those sites.
Since it's not enough to have a high ranking for your front page (Google gives different page ranks to different pages), once your site is established you should try to get other sites to link to other sections of your site as well. For example if you have a big site and you can identify segments which are different from each, try to raise a page rank for the sub-directories corresponding to those sections.
Have each page linking to several other pages on your site (crosslinking). That should be especially helpful for balancing the page ranking across different pages of your site, and of course it should help your visitors to find related content on your site.
Try to include a few outbound links to high quality sites in every document. That indicates a quality connection between your document and others sites that Google already considers to be quality sites. When linking to those sites, try to include the important keywords in those links.
Analyse your log files and see who refers to you the most. Try to find more similar sites. The referral information also reveals the keywords used to find your site. Often you find new keywords that you haven't thought of when targeting your site. By using those newly discovered keywords you can create more content that targets the unexpected traffic even better.
